Hugh Jackman is playing himself, he does not change anything up, he is just playing the role he plays in every movie. I didn't care what happened in the movie and they take a promisable premise and ruin it with excessive visuals, boring acting, and many cliches. But the story should not suffer in the process. Its harmless action that is trying to do nothing but keep us excited. The film is trying to be entertaining, and I will give it that.
Stephen Sommers has created a film that almost entirely focuses on the visual instead of anything else. Van Helsing is such a mess of a film that I don't even know where to start.
